Development and Demonstration of Technology for Integrated, Continuous Monitoring of Offshore Wind Turbines Using Fiber Optic Sensing
Neubrex Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kobe, Japan; President: Kinzo Kishida) is pleased to announce that its proposal, "Development and Demonstration of a Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing System for Cost Reduction and Continuous Wide-Area Monitoring," has been selected for the Green Innovation Fund Project "Cost Reduction for Offshore Wind Power Generation" administered by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). Under the project, Neubrex will leverage its proprietary Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing (DFOS) technology to develop and demonstrate integrated continuous monitoring technology that improves efficiency and reduces the cost of operation and maintenance (O&M) for offshore wind power facilities.
In the O&M of offshore wind power facilities, considerable time and cost are required for damage assessment after lightning strikes and other events, restart decision-making, and periodic inspections. These issues remain major barriers to the wider deployment of offshore wind power and the reduction of operating costs. By leveraging Neubrex's DFOS technology for integrated continuous monitoring, the project aims to reduce maintenance downtime, prevent damage from escalating into major failures, streamline inspection and dispatch decisions, and improve the efficiency of periodic inspections.
Neubrex has been providing integrated DFOS solutions encompassing sensing instruments, fiber optic sensor cables, data analysis and management software, and field measurement services. Through this project, the company will contribute to improving the reliability of offshore wind power facilities and reducing O&M costs, while accelerating the practical deployment of a new offshore wind O&M solution based on DFOS technology developed in Japan.
